We’re all adjusting to a new normal this summer. You’re likely spending a little more time at home. We sure are! Which means we have plenty of time for family activities, including our new favorite DIY, making homemade playdough.

There’s a side effect to all this family bonding though. We are creating a lot more messes! When it comes to easy cleaning, I turn to Weiman. Most of our mess happens in the kitchen. Cooking, playing, playdough-making; life happens at the counter! Weiman’s new Granite & Stone Daily Clean & Shine with Disinfectant makes the cleanup easy. You can pick it up for yourself from all major retailers online, and my personal favorite source, Amazon. It’s my go to day-in and day-out. No matter what touches my counters, I feel rest assured this spray can clean it up.

COVID has changed a lot of our routines, but we are finding positivity through fun and easy crafts and activities. My kids have been on a playdough kick lately. It is the perfect indoor summer activity for all ages for when it’s raining or too hot.

Use this recipe to make the BEST homemade playdough! It’s soft, all-natural and squishy. Plus, it cuts perfectly with cookie cutters!

HOW TO MAKE PLAYDOUGH:

2 cups all-purpose flour
4 teaspoons cream of tartar
3/4 cup salt
2 cups lukewarm water
2 Tablespoons of coconut oil
Food coloring, optional
Quart sized bags

First, stir together the flour, cream of tartar and salt in a large bowl or pot. Then add the water and oil. If you are only making one color, you can add it in now.

Next cook mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue until the dough has thickened and begins to form a ball. Remove from heat. Allow to cool slightly. Then knead until smooth.

If you are adding colors, like we did, divide the dough into balls. Indent the middle with your finger and add about five drops of color or more. Now knead the dough.TIP: Save the mess! If you want to avoid staining your hands, you can place the dough balls in quart sized bags, add food coloring and knead within the bag.

Once you're satisfied with the color you’re ready for the fun part! Playing! I love seeing what creations my kids come up with. While it only takes about 10 minutes to make, we get hours of fun. Since our activities outside the home are limited, activities that are fun and easy are more important than ever! Store your playdough in plastic bags and it should last you about three months.

After the fun is done and the playdough is all packed up, I quickly wipe down the counters with soap and water, and then pull out my Weiman Granite & Stone Daily Clean & Shine with Disinfectant and get to work. To disinfect, I spray on the solution, then let the solution sit on the counters for 10 minutes to disinfect. Then I wipe them clean. The spray has demonstrated effectiveness against viruses similar to Coronavirus on hard, nonporous surfaces, so I feel confident in using it to keep our family as healthy as possible! You can learn more about how to use it to protect your family from COVID here. It can also be used for quick surface sanitizing. Just leave the solution on for three minutes before wiping up excess liquid.

Quick, easy, safe and fun! What more can you ask for in an activity and cleanup right now!
