While Granite, Quartz, Marble and other stones are popular choices for kitchen countertops, they do require special care and attention. Many of these stones are sensitive to harsh chemicals, can harbor viruses and bacteria, can dull over time, and are porous so it is important to select a set of products to address all of your stone care needs.

Sealing Granite & Stone
Sealing is also a critical step in preserving the beauty of granite & stone countertops. Natural stone is porous so food, oil, and water can seep into the stone causing stains if the seal isn’t properly maintained. To help prevent stains, use a penetrating sealer, like Weiman Granite & Stone Sealer. It forms flexible, molecular links in each pore of granite/stone, protecting the surface from watermarks and preventing stains from being absorbed into the stone.
How to use Weiman Granite & Stone Sealer:
Liberally spray the entire surface until it is evenly wet. Do not oversaturate. If sealer is absorbed immediately, apply another application to the surface. Allow sealer to penetrate surface for 5 minutes. Wipe in a circular motion with a clean cotton towel or cloth to remove any excess sealer. If excess sealer dries on the surface, spray more sealer and wipe off immediately with a clean cotton towel. Allow 4 - 6 hours for the surface to completely dry. For extra protection, apply a second coat.
How often do you need to reseal?
Though it varies based on your stone and amount of use, on average stone should be sealed about every 6–12 months.
Make sure to test the seal on high-use areas frequently to ensure they’re protected. Simply sprinkle a little water across the surface and wait about 15 minutes. If the water sits on top of the stone, then it is sealed properly. If the water creates dark spots on the stone, then it is time to re-seal.
Don’t worry if you seal on top of an existing seal. That’s just extra protection!
- Seal sinks and countertops more often because the seal on high-use surfaces can wear out faster than normal. And don’t forget to seal under the lips of sinks!
- Countertop edges require at least 2 applications. Seal edges until there is no water absorption.
- Please note, the sealer will not affect the finish of your granite/stone and will not add shine.
